# Poe alternatives (2026): what Poe shares, and apps that keep your chats

> Poe, by Quora, lets you chat with many AI bots in one app, but its privacy policy says model providers and bot developers may receive your chats. Poe alternatives checked on their own pages: Msty and Jan for many models in one app, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini direct, and apps that run AI on your own PC.

**Short answer:** Poe, run by Quora, puts many AI bots in one app, but its own privacy policy says the **model providers and bot developers behind those bots may receive your chats**, and some may store them to train their models. If you want many models in one app, **Msty** and **Jan** mix online models with models that run on your own computer. If you want one strong assistant, go straight to **ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini**. If you want nothing to leave your PC, use a **local app** like LM Studio, Jan, Ollama or GreenCube.

- **Apr 2026** last update of Poe's privacy policy, which says bot makers may receive your chats
- **$0** to start with Msty Studio or Jan, both mixing online and local models
- **0** chats sent anywhere by an AI that runs on your own PC

## What Poe's privacy policy says about your chats

From Poe's privacy policy, last updated 30 April 2026 ([Poe](https://poe.com/privacy)):

- Its AI model providers and developers "may receive details about your interactions with bots and apps on Poe (including the contents of your chats and photos or documents you upload)".
- Developers that build bots through APIs "may view and store your chats on their servers to train their models".
- Your account details aren't shared with model providers or developers, unless you chat with other users in a group chat.
- If you use Poe's memory feature, Poe will share that memory with the other model providers you talk to.

That's the trade of a one-app-for-every-bot service: each bot is run by someone else, and your messages go to them. It's fine for many questions, but think twice before pasting school work that isn't yours, private notes or anything personal.

## The alternatives, by what you used Poe for

### Many models in one app

**Msty Studio** lets you "chat with local and online models" in one app, running local ones through Ollama, llama.cpp or MLX. Studio Free is "$0 Forever"; the paid Aurum plan is $149 per user per year, or $349 once ([Msty](https://msty.ai/pricing/)). **Jan** is free and open source and lets you "choose from open models or plug in your favorite online models", naming ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Llama, Mistral, Qwen, DeepSeek, Gemma and Kimi ([Jan](https://jan.ai)). In both, an online model still sends your chat to its company; a local one doesn't.

### One strong assistant, straight from the maker

Using ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini directly means one company's models instead of a marketplace of bots, and their rules are easy to check. With a free personal account: ChatGPT trains on your chats by default (you can switch it off), Claude only if you allow it, and Gemini while Keep Activity is on. ### Nothing leaves your computer

A local app downloads a model once and runs it on your own graphics card or processor, so no one else gets your chats and it works offline. **LM Studio**, **Jan** and **Ollama** are free and let you pick models; **GreenCube** (Windows, €9.99 once) picks the model for your PC and also reads PDFs and photos and makes pictures. ## Compared

| | Many models in one app | Runs models on your PC | Price (from its own page) | Your chats go to |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Poe** | Yes, plus user-made bots | No | Not readable when we checked | Quora and each bot's model provider or developer |
| **Msty Studio** | Yes, online and local | Yes (Ollama, llama.cpp, MLX) | Free; Aurum $149/year or $349 once | The online model's company, or nowhere for local models |
| **Jan** | Yes, online and local | Yes | Free, open source | The online model's company, or nowhere for local models |
| **ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini** | One company's models | No | Free plans; paid plans on their sites | That company |
| **GreenCube** | No: it picks one model that fits your PC | Yes, only | €9.99 once | Nowhere: your PC |

## How fast a local AI is on a normal PC

Running models yourself costs speed instead of privacy. We measured GreenCube on 10 real PCs:

| Your PC | Writes |
| --- | --- |
| 8 GB laptop, no graphics card | **5–7** tokens/s, about reading speed |
| 16 GB laptop, no graphics card | **14–18** tokens/s |
| Gaming PC with a 6 GB+ card | **37–76** tokens/s on most cards |

Models small enough for a PC are good for studying, writing and everyday questions; the biggest cloud models are still stronger on the hardest problems. Your card: [can my PC run AI?](https://blog.greencube.app/blog/can-my-pc-run-ai#checker)

## How we checked

Poe's facts come from its privacy policy and download page, Msty's from its pricing page, Jan's from its home page, all read in October 2026 and linked above. Where a page couldn't be read, such as Poe's prices, we say so instead of guessing. Speeds are our own tests. We make GreenCube, so we stick to facts anyone can check, and we recheck every month.

## FAQ

### What is Poe?

Poe is a chat app run by Quora that lets you talk to many AI bots in one place, including models from OpenAI, Anthropic and DeepSeek, plus thousands of bots made by other people. It has web, Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android apps.

### Does Poe share my chats?

Yes. Poe's privacy policy (last updated 30 April 2026) says the AI model providers and developers behind its bots may receive the contents of your chats and the files you upload, and that developers who build bots through APIs may view and store your chats on their servers to train their models.

### What is the best Poe alternative for using many AI models in one app?

Msty and Jan both let you use online models and models that run on your own computer in one app. Jan is free and open source; Msty Studio has a free plan, with paid Aurum plans at $149 a year or $349 once. When you use an online model in either, your chat goes to that model's company.

### Is there a Poe alternative that keeps my chats private?

An app that runs the AI on your own PC: LM Studio, Jan, Ollama or GreenCube. After the first download, your chats never leave your computer and the app works offline.
